Screen Truepress Jet L350UV+LM Can Print Food Labels and More

At Label Expo Europe 2017, Screen staged the official commercial launch of the versatile Truepress Jet L350UV+LM inkjet label printing system. With its low-migration (LM) inks, the Truepress Jet L350UV+LM can help label converters meet the growing demand for small to medium-length runs of printed food labels.

The ongoing diversification of consumer preferences has stimulated sustained growth in the demand for small- to medium-run work in the food-label printing market. Producers have also sought to differentiate their packaging by using a greater variety of substrates. So, printing companies have asked for digital label presses that can accommodate a wider range of substrates while maintaining the high levels of safety required for food products.

“Our further extension into the food package and labeling marketplace meets the market changes of recent years including diversification of consumer preferences and demand for small to medium lots,” said Ken Ingram, vice president of sales and marketing.

Features

The Screen Truepress JetUV+LM is a single-pass UV inkjet printer designed for high throughput speeds and vividly colored labels. Its print accuracy supports high image quality for product appeal and the sharp printing of fine text and security codes

It can handle rolls of media from 4 inches to 13.7 inches wide and operate at speeds of up to 196 feet/minute.

The Screen Truepress JetUV+LM can be configured with CMYK+White, CMYK+Orange, or CMYK+White+Orange inks. The orange inks increases the printer’s color gamut and supports the richer reproduction of colors including corporate brand colors and labels depicting fruit and other foods. White ink enables CMYK printing on transparent films.

The Truepress JetUV+LM is not just for food packaging. It can print conventional labels on a wide variety of materials, including thin and heat-sensitive films. A chilled roller can be added to increase the stability of thin materials that are susceptible to the heat generated by its UV lamp. For example labels used to wrap PET bottles can be printed on the Truepress JetUV+LM printer.

The system includes EQUIOS software, which increases the efficiency and reliability of the label/packaging printing workflow from data creation through post-processing.

What are low migration inks?

Ink migration is the process in which some ink components pass through the labels and packaging materials and penetrate the packaged food. This could affect the safety, odor, or taste of the packaged product. Low-migration inks and packaging materials are also desirable for products such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and tobacco.

In addition to low-migration inks, the Truepress JetUV+LM has a nitrogren purge mechanism that accelerates the UV-ink-curing process and dramatically reduces extractable ink components after printing.

Truepress Jet L350UV+

The Truepress Jet L350UV+LM will be joined by the innovative Truepress Jet L350UV+, another high-end model developed for standard label applications. The L350UV+ model will not be able to use the LM inks, while the L350UV+LM model won’t be able to use standard inks.

“We will continue to answer the diverse needs of the label printing industry and provide solutions that enhance the value of various products and contribute to the development of this industry,” said Ingram.
