At the ISA Sign Expo 2025 in April, HP showcased their newest innovations in HP Latex printers. They introduced the HP Latex 730 and Latex 830 series of wide-format printers for flexible materials and demonstrated their compact, HP Latex R520 all-in-one printer for both rigid and flexible materials.
Oscar Vidal, Global Director of Product & Strategy, HP Large Format Print, noted that that this was HP’s most significant rollout of Latex technology at Sign Expo since 2009: “It’s a perfect technology to really help customers be future-ready when it comes to new applications and stunning quality.”
The new HP Latex printers support a more comfortable work environment while helping PSPs meet the growing demand for sustainable, high-impact print applications with water-based, odorless, and UL ECOLOGO®-certified HP Latex inks, low emissions, and compatibility with fiber-based recyclable media.
HP large-format print executives at Sign Expo also discussed HP’s expanded Sustainability Amplifier Program and the new Production Hub that can be used along with the cloud-based print-management tools in HP’s PrintOS operating platform.

HP Latex 730 and 830 Printers
For small and mid-sized print-service providers (PSPs), HP created the HP Latex 730 and HP Latex 830 printer series. Together with HP Print OS Production Hub, the printers enable smaller teams to efficiently manage a fast-paced mix of routine and higher value specialty print jobs on rolls or sheets of flexible materials up to 64 in. wide.
Versatility: Printable materials include canvas, polyester films, PVC and PVC-free materials, self-adhesive vinyl, self-adhesive textiles, papers, synthetic papers, and decor fabrics and wallcoverings. The printed graphics can be converted into vehicle wraps, retail posters, decorative art, branded decor, event graphics, murals, stickers, labels, window graphics, banners, and soft (fabric) signage.
The automated two-sided printing capabilities on the HP Latex 730 and HP 830 printers make it possible to print applications such as doubled-sided promotional materials and pole banners on non-PVC materials.
Sustainability: Furthering HP’s commitment to sustainability, the HP Latex 730 and 830 join the HP Latex 630 as EPEAT Climate+ registered printers.
PSPs can also use the HP Sustainability Amplifier program to attract clients who must meet sustainability targets. The HP Sustainability Amplifier Program offers self-assessment tools, personalized recommendations, and expert-developed best practices. PSPs who improve their environmental impact through actions such as recycling waste or using more sustainable substrates can qualify for a recognition badge they can use in their marketing materials for the year in which it was issued.
Owners of HP Latex printers can reduce plastic waste with returnable supplies (including the new maintenance cartridge) via the HP Planet Partners repurpose and recycling program. The HP Planet Partners can also recycle end-of-life equipment.
“Corporate clients are increasingly interested in sustainability. They’re inquiring about actions to take and how to incorporate sustainability into their marketing messages,” said Preston Jordan, Owner and Founder of Digital Precision, a full-service environmental graphics production house.

The HP Latex 730 printer uses eight 1-liter cartridges of inks and two performance-enhancing clear fluids: the Ink Optimizer and Overcoat. The 6 ink colors include: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, Light Cyan, and Light Magenta. The HP Latex Optimizer controls dot gain on the print surface without using a dryer in the print zone. The HP Latex Overcoat helps improve curing and scratch-resistance.
The HP Latex 730 W printer model adds 2 cartridges of White Ink in a separate printhead.

The HP Latex 830 and 830W models are further enhanced to reduce running costs. These printers use 3-liter ink cartridges to lower the ink costs per print and allow continuous printing of higher volumes of work.
The white inks on the HP 730 W and HP 830 W models extend the range of materials and higher-value applications that can be printed. For example, white can be used to output true-color graphics on clear, colored, or metallic substrates. Sign shops can also use white ink to make high-value decor prints on clear acrylic.
Color Consistency: The HP Latex 730 and 830 series printers are engineered to deliver elevated print quality with maximum consistency. Color consistency is critical, particularly for large decor projects. For example, if one panel of a 5-panel wall mural gets damaged, all five panels don’t have to be reprinted in order to maintain the visual integrity of the mural.
The HP Latex 730 and Latex 830 printers use the latest generation of Latex inks and a printhead architecture that delivers sharp 4-point text.
HP Pixel Control technology enables users of Latex 730 and 830 printers to attain more robust, consistent image quality with fewer passes and less ink consumption. It also helps achieve uniform solid colors and greater detail.
Initially created for HP printers for professional photographers, HP Pixel Control technology harnesses the full potential of digital printing instead of trying to digitally replicate how images were printed on analog presses. HP Pixel Control technology uses HP’s High-Definition Nozzle Architecture (HDNA) on the printheads.
Enhanced color consistency and the HP Embedded Spectrophotometer enable users to create the custom color profiles needed to confidently repeat print jobs on various media types without compromising quality.
“One of the top highlights I’m seeing with this printer is that I’m getting finer details, banding reduction, and text sharpness at lower pass modes,” said Andreas Griess, Owner and Managing Director of DCO Digitaldruck Centrum, Oldenburg, GmbH.
Productive, High-Quality Printing: The printers include features to deliver high-impact print quality while enhancing productivity and reducing costs. For example, achieving high-quality results with fewer passes increases the number of jobs that can be completed each day.
Other productivity and time-saving innovations have added to each step of the printing process. For example:
- User-replaceable printheads eliminate the need to have a service technician change a printhead
- The spindle-less front-loading media system facilitates quick, easy media changeouts
- A new output platen minimizes material waste by allowing tighter media control of each job
- The updated maintenance cartridge lasts at least 50% longer than the cartridge on previous models
- Instant-dry latex inks enable more prints to be output and finished every day.
“With the new HP Latex 730 and HP Latex 830 series, the beauty is on the inside,” said Daniel Martinez, Global Head and General Manager of HP Large Format Business. As evidenced by the breakthrough technologies listed above, he said, “We’re bringing innovation in this new series to deliver unrivaled quality, enhanced production, and sustainability.”

HP Latex R530 All-in-One Printer
The HP Latex R530 printer provides seamless high-quality, rigid and flexible printing for PSPs of all sizes. In addition to printing the flexible materials that the HP Latex 730 and HP Latex 830 printers can handle, the HP Latex 530 can print on rigid sign and decor materials. Popular materials include sheets of paper or plastic foamboard, plastic corrugated, acrylic, polycarbonate, aluminum composite panels, wood, glass, ceramic, and non-porous textiles. Specialty applications include thermoformed and backlit signs and custom prototype packaging.

Small and medium PSPs struggle with rigid printing due to space constraints, high investment costs, and operational complexity. So, they often resort to inefficient workflows or outsourcing. Larger PSPs are always looking for production devices that can elevate their offerings and/or execute short runs of both rigid and flexible media.
The HP Latex R530 can handle sheets from 5.8 in. x 8.3 in. up to 63.6 inches x 60 inches and up to 2 inches thick. With two sets of optional 64-in. fold-up tables, the HP Latex R530 can handle sheets up to 63.6 x 236 in.

The 3-liter cartridges hold cyan, black, magenta, yellow, light cyan, light magenta inks, white ink, plus HP Latex Optimizer and HP Latex Overcoat. The cartridges can be replaced without halting operations.
HP describes this new model as an “all-in-one” printer because the category “hybrid” printer implies that combining two production processes (flexible and rigid printing) in one printer required design compromises.
For fast, economical setup, the HP Latex R530 printer uses the single-phase power supply that is commonly used in in homes and small businesses.
The printer also features:
- an intuitive touchscreen for ease of operation
- spindle-less printing
- automatic recirculation of white inks and printhead cleaning
- HP Pixel Control technology for stunning images that maintain the look and feel of subtrates
- fast transitions between rigid and flexible materials.
According to Oriol Gasch, Head of Large-Format Printing for HP North America, the Latex R530 takes less than two minutes to switch from printing on rolls to printing on rigid materials.

PrintOS Production Hub
The HP PrintOS Production Hub is first-of-its-kind large-format software that integrates order management with remote production control. By centralizing print operations in a real-time cloud-based platform PSPs can reduce errors, streamline production, and enhance efficiency. This enables them to take on more work, especially higher-margin short-run and custom projects.
The Production Hub gives users a way to remotely check which outstanding estimates have been converted into orders and the status of the jobs in progress. Production managers can also cancel, pause, and resume jobs in progress or change the sequence of jobs in the queue. Users can also be notified when one or more of the connected HP printers are running low on ink or substrates.
According to Gasch, Production Hub can be accessed by multiple stakeholders on desktop and mobile devices. This means the night-shift press operator can easily see that the day-shift press operator has already sent a pending print job through the RIP software that processes filles for each printer. Or a salesperson who needs to tell a customer when their job will be ready won’t need to make repeated calls to the pressroom.
To identify areas for improvement in the process, a production manager can use Production Hub to see which steps in the production process take 3 hours and which steps are already completed in minutes.
The Production Hub doesn’t replace a Print MIS or ERP, but can be configured to share order and job-status data with popular print-management information systems. programs.
Production Hub can also be used with other PrintOS apps, including Media Locator with color profiles and printer settings and Box, which simplifies the process of receiving, validating, preparing, and routing new orders.

Good to Know
In an interview at Sign Expo, Gasch emphasized three points he would like PRINTVERGENCE readers to know:
HP has a high level of commitment to innovation and to the wide-format industry. HP sold its first wide-format inkjet printer in 1991 to output computer-aided architectural and engineering designs. While HP continues to introduce innovations for higher-volume industrial digital printing, HP remains committed to helping PSPs who produce short runs of sign and display graphics.
Print is not dying. While demand for print publications has fallen, segments such as signage are growing in volume through applications such as branded interiors, window graphics, wallcoverings, vehicle graphics, event signs, retail displays, and experiential activations.
Print quality is paramount. HP’s efforts to develop printers to meet the highest standards of professional photographers, artists, and designers have led to innovations such as the Pixel Control technology which is included in the new HP Latex printers.
Plus, when HP researched the future of work, they discovered that employees do feel attached to the work that they do.
“We believe that if you give a designer the tools to produce a beautiful piece of art — whether that’s a poster or a wall — that can be very fulfilling.” said Gasch. “If the output doesn’t look good, they’re not going to talk about it.” But if they feel proud of their work, they will talk about it.
