Roland Adds XP-640 Eco-Solvent Inkjet Printer to Its TrueVIS Series

Roland DGA has added the 64-inch, 8-ink TrueVIS XP-640 high-speed roll-to-roll eco-solvent printer to its TruVIS series of wide-format inkjet printers that use UV, latex, or eco-solvent inks. The XP-640 will appeal to companies produce higher volumes of eye-catching, outdoor-durable prints for applications such as vehicle graphics, banners, billboards, and event marketing displays.

“While sign and graphic production has diversified with the introduction of UV and latex inks, customer demand for eco-solvent ink and the exceptional vibrancy and outdoor durability it provides remains incredibly strong,” noted Daniel Valade, Product Manager of Digital Print, Roland DGA.

“Our fastest TrueVIS printer to date, the XP-640 is uniquely engineered to maximize production capability while maintaining the amazing color and print quality that has become the hallmark of the TrueVIS product family,” said Valade.

Technology Improvements for Speed and Quality

The X-640 incorporates new printheads, high-speed data control functionality, and new inks to provide both outstanding speed and stunning output.

The printer uses dual staggered printheads to eject fine ink droplets at higher densities to produce vibrant, detailed graphics with fewer passes.

Roland DG TrueVIS XP-640 eco-solvent inkjet printer
The Roland TrueVIS XP-640 excels in producing signs with popular red and orange shades because the 8-color inkset adds Red, Orange, Green, and Light Black to the traditional Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black inks (CMYK) traditionally used to print color images.
Cost-Effective Inks

Roland’s new TH eco-solvent inks can be used in either an 8-ink configuration (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, Light Black, Orange, Green, and Red) for a wider color gamut or with two sets of four inks (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) for production of high-quality images at speeds of up to 818 sq. ft./hr.

The Red and Orange inks in the 8-color inkset allows users to achieve the highest accuracy in the orange and red shades typically used in advertising signs and graphics.  The wide color gamut inkset also makes it easier to accurately reproduce brand and corporate colors.

TH inks are also cost-effective, for maximum profitability in higher volume production.  The TH inks have a lower cost per millimeter than comparable inks and are GREENGUARD Gold Certified for minimal chemical emissions in indoor environments.

Roland’s new True Rich Color print setting optimizes the printer’s ability to create realistic graphics that combine vivid colors with neutral grays, smooth gradations, and natural skin tones. Users can choose to reproduce vivid, deeper, or softer colors, depending on the client’s requirements.  The settings can reduce ink consumption for lower per-print costs.

Ease-of-Features

The XP-640 includes several features that make it easier for operators to set up jobs and minimize errors and downtime. Features include:

  • a 7-inch color LCD touchscreen control panel,
  • a media setup function that automatically adjusts the gap between the printhead and the thickness of the loaded media.
  • a media take-up that reduces media skewing for stable production, and
  • a perforated sheet cutter for streamlined production of higher volumes of prints that will be converted into smaller sheets.

XP-640 users also have access to Roland DG Connect, a cloud-based app that helps optimize output operations. with functions such as operational visibility, simple profit calculation, profile downloads, and more.

To minimize downtime, users can perform routine maintenance such as replacing caps, wipers, wiper cleaners, and other parts around the printheads without having to call a service engineer. The only requirement is to keep additional parts in stock.
