Mimaki Adds Hybrid Inkjet Printer to 330 Series of UV-LED Inkjet Printers

Mimaki has added the UJ330H-160 hybrid inkjet printer to its flagship 330 series of UV-LED inkjet printers. The new printer enables sign shops and commercial print companies with limited floorspace, personnel, and capital to print higher-margin graphics on an exceptional range of roll or rigid media. It handles a wide variety of rolled papers, graphic films, and fabrics up to 64 in. wide as well as rigid substrates up to 5 x 11 ft.

Higher-Margin Applications

Many flatbed printer printers (including Mimaki’s) are engineered to add distinctive embossed effects by adding multiple layers of clear inks to the surface of prints on rigid substrates. This is Mimaki’s first roll-to-roll printer that supports 2.5D texture printing. The textures can replicate the feel of fabric weaves, woodgrains, brushstrokes, and more.

Or designers can add creative visual effects to decorative prints by adding gloss and matte surfaces finishes to selected areas of the image. Multi-layered printing techniques use white ink as a base on clear films to produce window graphics with different images on the front and back surfaces. Clear ink can be used to create a frosted privacy screen on films for office window graphics.

Efficient Operations

To improve efficiency when fulfilling orders for different types of products, operators can switch between roll and rigid output quickly and easily. Automatic adjustment functions ensure that high image quality can be reproduced easily and consistently, regardless of operator experience.

Belt Transport System

The new belt-transport system on Mimaki’s UJ330H-160 printer enables print-services providers to produce a wider range of applications on a single device, including window graphics on thin films or soft signage fabrics.

Unlike the flatbed printers that use conventional grit-roller transport mechanisms, Mimaki’s belt transport system provides the tension needed to keep fabrics and thin films from wrinkling.

For high-stability printing on large sheets of rigid materials, the transport system includes an Auto-Vacuum and front and rear lock roller units. The transport system can handle materials ranging from 4×8 ft. aluminum composite plates to boards up to 2 inches thick.

Speed, Precision, and Image Quality

All of the printers in Mimaki’s 330-series are built for speed, precision, and image quality. The print engine combines a high-density, high-definition printhead with Mimaki’s proprietary image-quality control technology.

The UJ330H-160 printer faithfully reproduces vivid, impactful images at a practical throughput speed of 150.6 sq. ft./hr. Printed images will include uniform solids as well as smooth, subtle gradients

Inks

This printer uses Mimaki’s UV-LED ELS-170 inks, supplied in one-liter bottles. The 6 colors of inks (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, Light Magenta, and Light Cyan) can be configured in 8 ink channels to include clear and/or white ink or two 4-color sets of CMYK inks.

These inks are designed to be free of chemicals that can be hazardous to human health and substances of concern specified in the European REACH regulations.  In addition to contributing to a workplace that is safe for both operators and the environment, the Mimaki ink formulations anticipate what will be needed to comply global environmental regulations.

Software

Mimaki’s RasterLink7 software includes a “2.5D Texture Maker” function and access to a library of more than 100 texture patterns that can be used as swatches in Adobe Illustrator.
